Qianyu Zhang is an accordionist and a researcher in music in London. Trained in both London and Beijing, Qianyu is exploring the boundary of the free-bass accordion.

Qianyu was awarded the “Young Music Artist” recognition by China’s Ministry of Culture, and she studied her Bachelor of Music degree at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China.
In London, Qianyu received her Master degree and Advanced Diploma with distinctions at the Royal Academy of Music.
She founded the London Tango Festival that unites Argentine tango musicians with those of London to explore and celebrate contemporary tango music, with the accordion at its core. She is currently pursuing her research journey at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in Tango music. Her current research is exploring the potential of the free-bass accordion in Nuevo Tango performance and composition.
